It was built on a series of fragile assumptions: that globalization would deepen interdependence, that economic integration would render large-scale conflict obsolete, and that advanced economies had moved beyond the brutal logic of attritional warfare.
As these assumptions collapse, they are clearing the path for a New World Order—one defined not by cooperation, but by a return to hard power and the fragmentation of global systems.
What began as a regional conflict in Eastern Europe evolved into something far larger: a systemic stress test for the Western-led order that emerged after the Cold War. The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were designed to transport Russian natural gas directly to Germany through the Baltic Sea. Together, they represented decades of economic integration between Russia and Europe.
Then the pipelines were destroyed in a series of underwater explosions.

Second, energy geopolitics will intensify further. LNG infrastructure, nuclear power, electricity grids, and strategic minerals will increasingly shape national security calculations.
Third, AI-driven warfare will accelerate. The integration of autonomous systems, drones, surveillance networks, and machine-assisted targeting may redefine military competition over the next decade.
Fourth, globalization will continue evolving into a more fragmented and politically aligned system. Strategic industries such as semiconductors, rare earth minerals, advanced manufacturing, and AI infrastructure will become increasingly securitized.
Fifth, financial systems themselves may become more contested as countries seek alternatives to Western-controlled banking mechanisms and sanctions exposure.
