Explosions rock the Crimean Bridge as Ukraine launches a record wave of drone attacks targeting Moscow and multiple Russian regions.

MOSCOW — Ukrainian forces launched a record-breaking aerial bombardment overnight, executing a highly coordinated Ukrainian drone attack that Russia had to defend against across at least a dozen separate regions, including the airspace directly surrounding Moscow. 

The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that its electronic warfare and air defence systems intercepted hundreds of incoming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in what security analysts call a dangerous and unprecedented escalation of long-range drone warfare.

The massive overnight operation targeted a mix of military logistics networks and vital industrial facilities deep within Russian territory.

Local reports indicated strikes and subsequent fires at the major Azot chemical plant in the Tula region—a key production site for industrial materials—as well as at multiple oil storage facilities and electricity power grid substations. 

Debris from drone interceptions over the Moscow outskirts forced temporary airspace restrictions and sparked localised fires, though local authorities report civilian casualties remained low.

This aggressive campaign comes directly on the heels of announcements from Kyiv confirming a renewed, long-range strike strategy designed to systematically disrupt Russia's domestic fuel and industrial supply chains. Ukrainian officials state that targeting these strategic economic sites is vital to slowing down frontline logistics.

Despite ongoing diplomatic murmurs from international intermediaries seeking to establish modern parameters for a ceasefire, the sheer scale of the overnight raid underscores that both nations remain deeply entrenched in high-intensity hostilities.

This massive surge in long-range operations marks the implementation of what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy termed a "40-day influence operation", explicitly designed to disrupt Russia's war economy and force a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. 

By overwhelming air defences with hundreds of concurrent entries across 12 distinct regions, the Ukraine drone attack on Russia is deliberately transitioning from sporadic retaliatory strikes to a sustained campaign of industrial interdiction. 

Defence analysts note that targeting explosive-manufacturing components—such as the vital Azot chemical plant in Tula—combined with continuous pressure on domestic oil refineries, places a severe, compounding strain on Moscow's military supply lines and domestic fuel stability.

Simultaneously, the tactical focus on isolating the occupied Crimean Peninsula has escalated to a critical tipping point. With deep-penetration strikes systematically cutting off regional ferry lines, disabling naval assets, and compromising transit hubs in Kerch, Ukraine is aiming to enforce a strict "logistics lockdown". 

This relentless aerial pressure has already forced occupation authorities to declare a regional state of emergency and halt civilian fuel sales. 

By carrying out these highly visible operations within Russia's interior and its critical hubs, Kyiv is actively eroding the Kremlin's narrative of domestic insulation and raising the economic and political cost of sustaining long-term hostilities.
